How we met our Dad.

A short documentary by Lukáš Franz aka Tucznak about 3 days in July 2008. Abe Cruz, singer and main character of the second music video for the album Get Me Out Of Here (2006), and his family came from New York City to the Czech Republic to conquer the biggest music festival, Rock For People.

3 days, 1 rehersal, 1 TV appereance, 1 music festival.

In July 2008 The Prostitutes were Adrian T. Bell, Martin Destroyer, Stevie LFO, Luk Santiago and Šmity. The Dad is Abe Cruz.

We added two new not-so-secret gigs on our event list, both of them happening very soon and taking place in Prague.

DESIGN CONCERT

The earlier one is on Friday 11.12. 2009. Together with The Fakes, The Prostitutes will play as a very special guest of design SUPERMARKET in a building formerly known as the department store Perla, Perlová street no. 5. It is a corner of Perlová and Jungmannovo náměstí. Here is the map and here is a Facebook event. The concert starts at 21.00 and the entry should be free.

CHRISTMAS CONCERT

The second gig is a bit secret and will be on Monday 14.12. 2009. Right after Umakart concert at Kino Oko we’ll move to 2. patro but we are not allowed to tell what it is and where is it, you should know or find out for yourself. From approximately 20:00 there will be a theatrical play of Pixy, a famous comic book by Max Andersson. And around 22:00 we will start our very special, Christmas concert with piano, acoustic guitars, bass and drums. We’ll play couple of semi-unplugged versions of our songs plus our country favs in the coolest place in Prague these days. Entrance free again. A must-go.

There are some videos captured by Smity’s camera at Rock For People, 4th July, Cool Stage. For an early afternoon, we enjoyed the gig extremely well. Less enthusiastic were our drums and guitars technicians.

Loads of pictures from this year’s festival are on Facebook. Maybe one day we will put them all on our flickr account, but for now, depend on that asocial network.

What does Wédéčko, a familiar name for our WD-40 robot co-synth-player, when he is not on stage with The Prostitutes? Well, see for yourself in a video from Rock For People and in a video showing Wédéčko persecuting people in Prague’s Metro, but in the end singing loud & proud.

We played last week at the official closing ceremony of International Film Festival Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad). There is one lo-fi video of Space Oddity live captured by Jack from Carlsbad. Enjoy!

And I found one curious video of The Fakes remix of our song Leave Like It Is made probably by a fan in UK. The picture selected can be a cover image for this remix with no doubts. Good taste!

24 Hour Party People

During the coming weekend, you can meet us on 3 different stages in 3 countries. And all this within 24 hours, no jokes.

This is the plan of our trip:

3. Saturday 19th @ 9PM – Freek Out festival, Wolkersdorf (A)

Aftermath. Part One.

It was like a dream. Tucznak, shooting all this for three days, wrote a nice post which sums it up for me quite well. “Internet makes the world smaller” finally got a real picture for me. We met people who really dare to be different without being unwillingly (or intentionally) silly. They do it by their spontaneity, fervid effort and extraordinary sincerity – something we use to call “rocknroll”.

I finally met my e-friend Anne Marie and we had a chance to “take drugs together”* and it was simply great. Mr. Abe Cruz aka The Dad made a show like he was on stage every night for many years and people loved it (according to what i heard on stage). Somebody mentioned Buena Vista Social Club and I nodded smiling. We had two beautiful evenings inside two nice restaurants, super-quick rehearsal, TV appearance, the Dad made couple of interviews for diverse media and we had a great time at the festival on stage together. 3 days stay is a luxury for a rock-star on tour to spend in one country, isn’t it?

Hard to describe the atmosphere, so I will rather use videos to talk about it instead of words.

Knock, knock! The Dad is coming!

In couple of hours, 10AM exactly, The Dad and his family will land at Prague’s airport. We can’t wait. We planned everything properly, bought presents, made schedules, transport plans, media meetings. I think now we are ready. Adrian and Stevie will wait for Abe Cruz and his family at the airport (together with Tucznak, who will take care of camera and will be shooting doc about this official celebs’ visit . They will take our guests to the hotel and in the evening we will go for a drink or two following our guests being in advantage (they will have – 6 hours). The next day in the evening we will rehearse for the friday’s Rock for People concert (starting 15.50 at green stage). If you are interested, don’t miss this one-and-only show with The Dad on stage! More info here. After the rehearsal we will go to Czech TV for a live interview in Události v kultuře at 21.00 and then for a dinner in a restaurant. On friday, 4th of July (!), we will leave Prague around 12 o’clock heading to Hradec Králové airport to play at the festival. Hopefuly, the show will be good. On Staurday Abe and his famiy are going back to U.S: Normal boring life of superstars as we know it.

The last and the first.

While the video for the last single from our debut album finally got its sound post-production treatment and The Dad enters youtube again but in a higher quality, the first single from our upcoming album was already mixed and mastered. It happened on thursday in Dušan/Tata Bojs’ studio at Delta. It should be hopefully out due September and it seems that Mods, me and Michal, will do the music video for this one as a followup on our successful video for The Prostitutes’ Sunshine, again produced by Bistro Films production house in Prague.

But first of all, already mentioned new version of sensational The Dad sings The Prostitutes:

Thanx Anne Marie for all these DVDs (and Frank) with iMovie and Garageband projects! Everything worked perfectly. My respect to you and your dad for such an outstanding effort and see you soon on stage at Rock for people!

For all film eaters, movie freaks, backpack reviewers, art school students, talented actresses and all citizens of Karlovy Vary and neighbouring county: We would like to invite you to our concert happening during the International Film Festival in Karlovy Vary (MFF KV) 9th of July in Rotes Berlin club. Last year it was a riotous party in a completely packed club with Adrian stage-diving and all of you dancing your bones off. I would like to see it again.
